Our swim lessons are designed around the individual. Rather than categorize swim lessons by levels, we look at each individual student’s experience and ability and meet them at their level. We work with students of all ages, starting at 2 months old and continuing through adulthood.
MarTar Swim School specializes in teaching swim lessons for individuals with special needs, including both children and adults with autism, down syndrome, ADHD, PDD, cerebral palsy, and visual or auditory impairments.
During our swim lessons we use a variety of modifications, adaptations and techniques including visual aids and sign language.
I initially signed up for swim lessons to overcome my fear of water before our first cruise, hoping to feel confident during a snorkeling excursion with my husband, Chad.
Once in the ocean, Chad—an experienced swimmer—suddenly began struggling to keep his head above water. I swam over to support him, realizing we had drifted far from the boat. Remembering my instructor's calm guidance and relying on the muscle memory and confidence from my lessons, I managed to keep us both afloat until a guide rescued us.
After returning home, we learned Chad had actually suffered a heart attack during the excursion. MarTar Swim School truly saved his life.
